Best 4 ways to boost the immune system naturally

Best 4 ways to boost the immune system naturally

  1. Sleep: To stay healthy, our basic needs need to be met, and this is unfortunately a deficient area for most people. 99% of people need 7-9 hours of sleep for optimal functioning, despite many people claim to be “fine” with 6 or fewer hours. But when their brains are studied, it turns out that everything from their reaction time to being able to read emotional expressions accurately improves with every extra hour of sleep until the happy medium of 7-9 hours is met. This makes sense, given sleep is when the body repairs and renews, clears out waste metabolites, and prepares the brain and body for optimal functioning.
  2. De-stress: stress plays a huge role in both weakening the immune system and even triggering mistakes of the immune system, causing it to attack parts of your own body instead of foreign invaders like it’s supposed to (aka autoimmune diseases). Even if it’s just 30 minutes a day, give yourself that time to exist as if you have zero deadlines or obligations and simply live in and enjoy the moment. Exercise is a great time to employ this strategy, and you will come out of it feeling more focused and refreshed, and you’ll perform better cognitively as well. It’s essentially a form of meditation, and meditation is always a great idea. Keep in mind, everyone is different, so for some people video games may be their de-stress tool. For some, reaching out to loved ones brings down stress (for others, it creates it).
  3. Exercise: another basic human need. Many studies show it boosts the immune system, among other fantastic things. Consider getting some sun while you’re at it, (just avoid sunburns). Exercising outside especially in the morning is ideal, because morning light and morning surge in cortisol (the “alertness hormone”) helps set the circadian rhythm properly and increase melatonin production so you sleep better at night.
  4. Whole food plant-based diet: the standard American diet is causing a great fruit, vegetable, and fiber deficiency. There are lots of nutrients that we know help the immune system, including zinc, vitamin C, and many more complex nutrients, polyphenols, antioxidants that we cannot even synthesize yet in laboratories. All of these nutrients are plentiful in a plant-based diet. Certain superfoods are especially potent with healthful nutrients, including turmeric (see turmeric blog for details). Elixir Shots Immunity carries a hefty dose of fresh turmeric containing 15,000mg in each 2 fl oz wellness shot.
